Training a New generation of Researchers in Offshore Seaweed Aquaculture to Produce High-value Chemicals - SeaChem

MSCA DN SEACHEM Doctoral Candidate Julie Grivotte (DC6, University of Galway) completed a three-month research secondment at CTAQUA, Spain, a partner institution within the SEACHEM network. During her stay, Julie carried out a series of controlled laboratory experiments focused on optimising the growth and polysaccharide production of Ulva ohnoi. Her work investigated the influence of key abiotic factors including light, temperature, and salinity on this species, yielding valuable insights such as its high tolerance to a wide range of cultivation temperatures.

This secondment represents an important step in Julie’s doctoral research and reflects the collaborative, cross-institutional spirit at the heart of the SEACHEM programme. Many thanks to the CTAQUA team for their support and hospitality throughout the visit.
