Simona Paolacci is an environmental scientist interested in aquatic plants and algae. She has a PhD in plant eco-physiology and a post-doc in applied plant science. She worked at the development of the first duckweed-based water remediation system in Ireland and, since January 2021, she is a senior researcher in Bantry Marine Research Station. Simona’s research focuses on algae farming, she works on the optimization of growth and biomass quality of different species of kelp and red seaweed.
She believes in circular economy, and she looks for smart solutions to improve food production reducing the environmental impact. Her research interests also include invasive species and the effect of environmental factors on plant physiology.
