BlueClus is a network of innovative businesses that focus on the development and promotion of sustainable economic activities at sea. It supports companies in a neutral manner in setting up partnerships with other companies, knowledge institutions and government bodies to develop and implement innovation projects. BlueClus also stimulates knowledge sharing and strives to increase societal support for the Blue Economy. BlueClus’s activities cover 6 focus areas, including “sustainable seafood & marine biotechnology”. Aquaculture is considered an economic sector with high potential, not only for sustainable food production but also for a range of biotechnological application. For this area, a roadmap and a portfolio of innovation projects are being developed. The BlueCluss is an observer partner in several Flemish and European projects concerning aquaculture and marine biotechnology and has insights in the needs (technological, societal, regulatory, legal, etc.) to develop this emerging sector. Therefore, we are intrigued to participate in this novel project. Two innovation managers will be appointed to organize a training session in marine aquaculture and to participate in the advisory board of the SeaChem project.
